dissolving life by suzi9mmsprained minds by suzi9mmbiology exam tomorrow by suzi9mmexquisite II by suzi9mm

suzi9mm was the very first artist who actually made me aware of deviantART. I saw some of her work in a local music magazine in the first half of the first decade of the 2000's, and they had a link to her page on dA. I followed that link, really liked what I saw, and registered an account to favourite (And purchase!) some of her artwork. "Sprained Minds" is still one of my all-time favourite photgraphs, for various reasons (one of them being that it looks even more ridiculously sexy on high-gloss paper on my walls). Her mixture of sex, sensuality and the intimate brutality of blood still hold me in their fascinating grasp.

And I simply adore the evolution of her work in the years between when I came across her and now.

Corset by oryanz

This photograph of a corset made out of piercings was one of the pictures that I found after registering on the site and following the tracks of people who watched suzi9mm and were watched by her in return. Before we had the "Suggested from other artists" on here, the best way to find great artwork was to look around the people connected to the artists you already knew and adored. It was... It was a journey. Sure, it was slower and more ardous, but it also gave you that thrill of the (digital) hunt. And the satisfaction of finding yet another beautiful piece was always a welcome feeling.

And that's exactly the feeling I had when I found this photograph. It still speaks to me. It's still alluring to me. It's still inspiring to me. I just... I still love and adore it. Dedication, beauty, creativity, pain... All still apparent, all still calling to me.

Aries by NicolasRGiacondinoelemental by NoirFeuArt Nouveau III by DanielaUhlig

In the following years I was able to find many more artists who created work which I loved then and which I still love.

From Nicolás R. Giacondino (better known as Aerion-the-faithful) had a striking, bold style when I first stumbled upon him. And over the years his style became more and more... His. Better. More stylish. More defined. And more diverse. He's one of those few artists who are able to infuse their own soul into the pictures they paint. Giving each of them their own distinctive look as well as still always being distinctly THEIRS. I chose Mr. Giacondino to illustrate the cover of the very first story I ever self-published. And it remains a bold and beautiful piece.

Then there's Ms. Agata Fitas (NoirFeu), whose photography have that immortal feeling of another world around them. Something fey. Something ghostly. Her gallery is stunning, her pictures captivating. Each able to speak for itself. It's as if her camera is able to actually capture that one, whimsical, moment of the scenes she catches on film.

Last, but not least, the extremely talented Daniela Uhlig. Being a poster-child for my thesis that Berlin is actually able to breed and/or create/mold talented, creative people more than most other cities. Some of her work graces my walls. More will follow. Her clear and distinctive style has a beauty to itself that I seldom see in other artists. She also choses subjects and style-clashes which I immensely enjoy, which is a great bonus. But visit her gallery. See her play with serious subjects, with whimsy, with sex, with fusions. And see her evolve and change as she goes along.

These two pieces show how wonderful dA can be. When the original artist took the photograph, she was 13. Thirteen. And already with a great eye for composition, but also with a great eye for the stupidity of superficial perception. And one of her friends decided to play with it, apply his own style and art-form to it and create a most exquisite digital art-piece. dA was able to give both a way of sharing their art, their voice and their views with the world. And this is something that should be truly treasured. (Also, both pieces are more than just "nice". They're quite beautiful. And the original still speaks to me. After nine years.)

Stay with Me by missmorgue
Last, but very much and truly not least, there's the wonderful and talented and, quite simply, beautiful Miss Morgue. When I stumbled across her artwork, I was immediately drawn in. Grungy, industrial, digital photo-manipulations. What's not to love? So I commented on her pieces, and gave some honest opinions and pieces of critique. She did likewise on my pieces. And before long, we came into personal contact. And, as time would have it, we became friends. We met, we talked, we laughed, we shared. All this because we both took time and effort to look at each other's art and were able to connect directly. dA not only gave me a wonderful new artist to watch and follow, but also a new friend. And this, in my eyes, must be one of dA's most wonderful features: The possibility of true connection.

And sad as I am to say it, I think that dA's continued popularity somehow diluted this. The signal-to-noise ration has risen to extreme heights. And I long back for the time when the few comments people received all had at least some thought behind them. Some effort. But all I can do to help with this, is to "lead by example", so to speak. To leave meaningful comments written in correct, coherent {insert your language}. And hope that more people start doing the same again.

...

There you have it.
My story with deviantART.

How it began. Where it lead me. What I think of it now.

Happy Birthday deviantART.
May there be more than just a few more years left. And may they always be better.

Again. A Year.

1 min read
Life's pretty... Fast and loose these days. University is nearly killing me, even though there is success. There was a lot of drama lately. Most of which I would LOVE to forget. Stupid, kindergarten-level type of drek.

There was a pretty serious event that quite shocked me, a few months ago. It feels even further away now.

Right now I'm sick and tired and still can't sleep.

So I bought myself a month of subscription.

And wanted to shout out my last.fm account:

www.last.fm/user/The_Sarge/

If anyone of you would like to connect there, I'd be more than pleased. :)

Looong time, no journal.
And no new material, for that matter.
Let's see if the muse will shine down on me now, in this new year of mine... :)

Anyways, here's one of those weird emails that one gets from time to time. Edited for being in English and getting rid of the most outreagous questions. If you want to know stupid things about me... Read on. :)

If not, well...
Watch my scraps in the next few days. I might want to test something 'new'.

Here goes.

01. [What time is it?]
2000 CET

b-movie - Remembrance Day

08. [What are you listening to right now?]
Pain of Salvation - Imago (Homines Partus)

09. [Why do women give their cars names?]
I wouldn't know. Actually, I'm the only one who gave his car a name in my dircle of friends. And I'm not a woman. (AFAIK... *grins*)

10. [Last thing you ate?]
Fried egg, sunnyside up.

11. [Favourite animal?]
Wolf. Through the chance of having met a wild one once. After that, it developed. I also like wolvish characteristics (and seem to have a few of them myself. Which ones? Well, not everyone finds out... *wolvish grin*)

12. [If you were a crayon, which color would you be?]
Either black or dark blue. Can't really say why. Just a gut feeling-

13. [Where do you want to go for honeymoon?]
Copenhagen during the summer months. Strolling through the city. Visiting the sea-side. Driving somewhere further north for a day or two... I think that this would be... Quite lovely.

14. [How's the weather right now?]
Cloudy with a few hints of spring. God... I sooo hope for spring.

15. [Last person you talked to on the phone?]
Err... Good question, actually.

16. [What do you notice first on your preferred gender?]
Still the same old, strange, thing: Her neck. Quickly followed by her face (especially the eyes) and hair(-colour).

17. [How are you today?]
Fine, actually. :) Visiting a good friend tomorrow. Expecting mail from someone... Special. *smiles* A lovely dark angel. :)

Earl Grey.

Mmmh... Sapphire Blue Gin and Tonic.

Nope, sorry.

51st State.

29. [Favourite day in the year?]

30. [Are you too shy to invite someone to dinner?]
No. No, really not. I'm way past these stages of shyness.

31. [Ever had a car-crash?]
Just two stupid parking-accidents. *grumbles*

32. [What do you like more, funny or scary movies?]

Oi. Errr... Wow. Good question.
"Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" is pretty much up there... :)

Denmark. Copenhagen.

35. [Summer or winter?]
Well... Summer. I like the cold, but I HATE German winters. *grumbles*

36. [Hugs or kisses?]
A combination of both, with the right person. Not every kiss has to be sexual. But both hugs and kisses should always be full of emotions.

37. [Relationship or ONS?]
Relationships. Even IF there should be a ONS, it should have emotions attached to it, and be with someone you like and trust. No throwaway-sex.

38. [Do you ever loved someone strong enough that s/he made you cry?]
Naturally, yes. If you ever loved someone and he/she didn't make you cry, it didn't last long enough.

39. [Where do you want to be kissed somewhen in the future?]
A bustling city at night. Under the full moon. By someone who finally loves me.

Not once. :)

52. [What's the best in your life right now?]
Patchy. *obscure reference*

53. [Chocolate or vanilla?]
Chocolate.

54. [how much do your love your job?]
As much as it pays me... Not very fond of it, but it has to be.

55. [In which store would you max your account?]
HMV. Hands down.
Barnes and Nobles too, perhaps.

56. [What time is it now?]
2146 CET. Damn, I got distracted... *g*

I got a free week of subscription today. :-)

dA really feels different now.
And damn... Wouldn't it be nice to always look at it like that?

. . .

On another note:

Only slightly more than 24hrs and I'll be in a train...
I'm happy. :)
